About Me

5977

Welcome to my blog! Over the past five years, my participating in blogging has waxed and waned, but this site remains an important place for me to share my work and life. Through my posts I’ve chronicled my journey through poetry and teaching, as well as my ever-deepening love of Texas. I’m glad you made your way here.

I was born and raised in Ohio, graduating with a B.A. in English from Kenyon College in 2006. In 2008, I received my M.A. in English from Case Western Reserve University. Soon after graduation, my husband and I moved to Austin, Texas. (We divorced in 2014.) I currently reside in East Austin with my dog Simon, as well as an awesome roommate. In 2015 I enrolled in the online MFA program at the University of Texas at El Paso, and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to continue my literary education at such an amazing program. Although I still love teaching, I’m starting to explore career opportunities that take me outside of the classroom. At this point in my life, I’m interested in a career focused on environmentalism, conservation, and stewardship. I look forward to this next phase of my life journey.

Thanks for reading. I look forward to your comments. If you want to contact or interact with me off the blog, check out my Contact/Mailing List page for details.

  1. Allyson, I read your blog for the first time and loved it. You have far more emotional maturaity than many expert poets. I too have read and liked the same books you have mentioned in your blog. You are a very good poet I must admit.
When you talked about importance of grammer, I felt my shotcomings. Writing in second language perhaps makes me little conscious.
I loved your poem in the Texas Poetry Calendar.
Round Top fest. provided us little time to get to know each other.
I wish you all success in literary life.

  2. Just now met & read your blog, Allyson… and love what you’ve written about yourself and the way you said it all. I’m so glad to meet all these fascinating facets of your unique, lovely self. Thank you for what you share,.. I must get your book! Looking forward to more… and attending your workshop when the opportunity rises. In admiration, C. 🙂
